Colonel Dax is an alternative rock project based around the songwriting, production and filmmaking of Tom Hughes. Their experimental music video for 2016’s “The Changing Man”, filmed over a 1-year period, attained viral popularity and to date has amassed over 6 million views worldwide. The initial head-shave for the music video raised over £750 for Macmillan Cancer Care, and the proceeds from their 2018 single “I’m Just a Man (With a Moustache)” were all (and continue to be) donated to CALM and the Movember Foundation; two important mental health charities.
The second Colonel Dax album “thisisnotadream”, released in 2022, features SoundCloud’s New & Hot chart-maker “I Weave You Loom”. The album’s 27-minute title-track won Bangor University’s Parry Williams Composition Prize in 2017. FOCUS Wales 2024 will see the debut of a brand-new Colonel Dax line-up. Drummer/vocalist Tom and guitarist Billy Evans will be joined by long-time collaborators James Hughes and Dylan Williams. The quartet have performed together as a prolific cover band for 10 years, and are renowned for their tight, fun and “explosive” sets; and they’re now turning their attention to Tom’s original songs. Completing the line-up is multi-instrumentalist Elin Williams who, when she isn’t playing piano, will be joining Dyl in a father-daughter brass section.
Funky, proggy, and somewhere in the vicinity of Rock, Colonel Dax play songs about confusion, animals, dreams and strange places; songs that are puzzles; and songs that are absolutely stupid.
